Apple introduced the MacBook and MacBook Pro in 2006. They used Intel chips, the computer parts that do the main work. Many other computers used these chips too. Over the next 20 years, Apple helped change laptop design.
In 2008, Apple introduced laptop cases made from one piece of metal. These cases were strong and light. Other computer makers later made similar designs. In 2010, the MacBook Air became thinner at the front, with space for bigger batteries and faster storage inside.
The 2012 MacBook Pro had a much sharper screen. Other companies worked to improve their screens too. In 2016, Apple added the Touch Bar, a small touch screen above the keyboard. It also removed many places to connect other devices. The computer became thinner and lighter, but less useful for many people at work.
In 2020, Apple started using its own M1 chip. The new laptops worked faster and ran longer between charges. In 2021, Apple brought back places to connect a screen and insert an SD card on new MacBook Pro models. Microsoft and Qualcomm later worked together on competing laptops.
