Apple Offers Help for Broken iPhone Duo Screens

Some iPhone Duo screens break soon after people start using them. Apple says owners with this problem can contact AppleCare for a replacement.

Apple says a small number of its iPhone Duo phones have a screen problem. The Duo is Apple's first phone that folds. It starts at $1,999. Apple says most Duo phones do not have this problem.

Some owners say the inside screen broke after only hours or days of use. They saw cracks near the middle of the screen. Others saw bright lines or white areas. Some people heard a crunch when they opened the phone.

The repair group iFixit took a Duo apart to study it. The group thinks a part near the fold may press against the screen. A small bar may not move down far enough. This could put too much pressure on the screen, but the cause is not yet certain.

Apple says the problem appears soon after people first use an affected phone. Owners with screen problems should contact AppleCare for a replacement. Some owners already got new phones in stores. Others still have to wait because stores do not have enough phones.
