BETA Gets Approval to Show Customers Its Electric Aircraft

BETA can take possible customers on flights in its electric aircraft. It still needs more approval before it can start regular business flights.

BETA Technologies has new approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA. This US agency checks air safety. The approval is the first of its kind. It lets BETA take possible customers on flights in its electric ALIA A250 aircraft. FAA experts checked safety before giving approval. BETA can also fly in more areas.

The first flight under this approval took place on October 20. The aircraft flew 39 miles in 20 minutes. It left Plattsburgh International Airport in New York. It went straight up into the air, then flew forward using its wings. It landed straight down at Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport in Vermont.

The aircraft can use places with or without a runway. It has space for up to five passengers or more than 1,200 pounds of goods. Its possible jobs include carrying people and goods, helping with medical needs, and doing military work. BETA continues to test the aircraft. The new approval only allows flights to show it to possible customers and other participants. The company still needs full FAA approval before it can offer regular business flights.
