Doctors sometimes need brain pictures of a baby before birth. They use a machine called an MRI scanner. But the baby can move during the scan. This can leave gaps in the pictures. Doctors may then miss a brain problem.
Researchers at MIT, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Inria developed an AI tool called E(3)-Pose. It helps track the baby’s head. It uses a simple fact: the left and right sides of the head have similar shapes. This helps it find the head’s position.
The tool could help doctors get clearer pictures and find problems early. It mainly learned from scans of babies later in pregnancy. The researchers want to improve it for smaller babies earlier in pregnancy. These babies have more room to move.
