Navi Pillay has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The South African judge is 85. The prize committee praised her work for peace and rules for countries. She once led the United Nations' work on people's rights. She also worked as a judge at the International Criminal Court.
Pillay grew up in a poor part of Durban. South Africa then had laws that separated people by race. As a lawyer, she defended people who fought these laws. Her later work covered people's rights in Rwanda, Gaza, and Myanmar.
Pillay learned about the prize in Nuremberg, Germany. She thanked people there. She dedicated her prize to people who survived serious crimes and to people who work for justice.
