A group of young protesters in India started the CJP movement in May 2026. They opposed the government’s decision to cancel tests for entering medical school. India’s top judge, Surya Kant, also compared young people without jobs to cockroaches, a kind of bug. In July, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan left his job. This was an early success for the movement.
The group now challenges changes to the lists of people who can vote. Critics say India’s election office removed about 130 million names. Protests started on October 2 in Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities. Protesters want election chief Gyanesh Kumar to leave his job. They also want a separate group to check the changes. Until then, they want the office to stop removing names. They want the old lists back before the next elections.
The election office says it is removing extra entries for the same person, dead people, and people without Indian citizenship. Critics worry that poor voters cannot easily find old papers to prove they belong on the lists. Police held two people who speak for the movement, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party reject the demands. They say the protests hurt the system of government through voting.
