In Torla, in northern Ivory Coast, farmers and cattle keepers need the same land and water. Farms grow during the rainy months. Cattle have less space. During dry months, cattle walk farther for water and grass. They sometimes damage crops. This causes fights.
Workers finished repairing a dam in August. It now holds more water for cattle and fields. Local people manage it. United Nations groups and other partners support the project. People now talk together and have fewer fights.
Ms. Traoré grows more vegetables with the water. Her work helps pay for her children’s school. Other women also have more chances to grow vegetables to sell. This work helps families earn money.
