A special bridge helps animals cross Interstate 25 near Larkspur, Colorado. It opened in December. It is North America’s largest bridge for wild animals. Bears and other animals use it to cross the busy road safely.
The project also has five tunnels under the road. Fences guide animals toward the bridge and tunnels. After 10 months, crashes between cars and wild animals have fallen by 91%. Officials expected a 90% fall. Traffic delays have also fallen by 9% because fewer crashes block the road.
Colorado is now looking at six more places for animal bridges. One planned bridge will help a type of wild sheep cross safely.
