French government chat app is attacked

France said its internal chat app for public workers had a cyberattack. Officials blocked one account and started to check what data may have been seen or taken.

France has an internal chat app called Tchap for public workers. It uses protected messages. It is part of France’s plan to use local digital tools.

On June 7, France’s cyber safety agency said the app had a security problem. A digital office in France then started a full check. Officials blocked one account that was used in the attack.

They are still trying to learn what data the attacker could reach. They also want to know how much information may have leaked.

Users got a warning message after the attack. The message said that public chat rooms on the app do not have the same strong protection as private messages.
