The EU has ended limits on money for Hungary. Hungary can now get €4.2 billion. It can also return to EU programs for students and research. The limits started in 2022 because of worries about dishonest use of public money.
Péter Magyar's party won a large election victory. The new government made changes to fight dishonest behavior and make its work more open. Hungary and the EU agreed on changes and investment plans for €16.4 billion in total.
Hungary is also asking for €10 billion to help recovery after the pandemic. Another €2.2 billion depends on more freedom at universities. Hungary says it met all the conditions. The EU is checking. Hungary could get the remaining money by year's end if the EU approves.
