AI Could Change Work, but Jobs Could Grow

AI could do more than half of U.S. work hours by 2035. Many workers may need new skills or different jobs.

McKinsey says AI could do more than half of U.S. work hours by 2035. Changes could cut the need for workers by about 36 million jobs. But economic growth could create a need for about 41 million jobs. The country could have more jobs overall.

Office workers face big changes. Technology could do about 80% of their work hours. This does not mean 80% of their jobs will disappear. About 11 million Americans may need to change jobs. Many workers will need new skills.

About 85% of growing jobs need proof of learning or skills, such as a certificate. Companies should check how workers move into new jobs. They should also check how they use the time AI saves.
