Bangladesh and Malaysia are working to restart hiring workers from Bangladesh. They have stopped and started hiring many times. Workers have faced high costs and unfair treatment. In August 2026, a Bangladeshi official said Malaysia would hire about 200,000 workers in six months. Malaysia said this number was not an official government plan.
Malaysia also agreed in principle to take 10,000 workers without making them pay to move there for work. But on September 30, final costs and travel dates were still unclear. Officials warned workers to wait for clear instructions. They told workers not to pay money, take medical tests, or give anyone their passports yet. Past hiring problems have left workers and their families with money to repay.
