Sony has updated the PlayStation service terms with a rule aimed at inactive PSN accounts. Under the new policy, accounts that remain unused for 36 months may be closed.
Before that happens, Sony plans to send an email notice to the account holder. Users will then have six months to reply if they want the account to remain open. If there is no response within that period, the account can be permanently closed.
The change matters because closure would also end access to the digital content linked to the account, including games, add-on content, and films bought from the store. The update has drawn attention from players who are concerned about digital ownership and the company’s growing focus on digital services.
