Scientists Find 57 New Sea Animals

Scientists found 57 new kinds of sea animals in a deep canyon near Argentina. They also found trash.

Scientists studied sea animals from Argentina’s Mar del Plata Canyon. In two weeks, they found 57 new kinds and five new groups of related animals. Most animals came from a 2025 sea trip. More than four million people watched live videos of the trip.

An orange sea star looked like the cartoon character Patrick Star. But it was not a new kind. Scientists also found a sea cucumber with two horns. They called it Loki. They found 20 new kinds of tiny animals called copepods. They still need to check 90% of the copepod samples.

The new animals still need full scientific descriptions. Scientists also found plastic and fishing trash. Even this faraway place shows signs of human activity.
