Hildasay, a Scottish island off Shetland’s west coast, is on sale for £350,000 (€414,000). It covers about 110 hectares and can only be reached by boat. The property includes a traditional stone cottage, known as a bothy, and a small pier where boats can stop.
The cottage is not connected to the main electricity supply. Previous owners used a small wind turbine, which produces electricity from wind, and a diesel-powered generator. According to Kelvin Anderson, the agent handling the sale, buyers will need to arrange power themselves. Inside, there is a living area with a stove that burns solid fuel, a raised sleeping area, and a separate bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilets. Anyone hoping to improve the accommodation will need planning permission and other official approvals.
The island offers quiet surroundings rather than the comforts of a fully connected home. Its landscape includes a rugged coastline and two freshwater lakes. There is also plenty of birdlife, with different birds appearing as the seasons change.
