Record Pumpkin Becomes the First to Pass 3,000 Pounds

A 3,156-pound pumpkin grown by Ron Wallace of Rhode Island broke a world record that was only a week old.

Ron Wallace, a grower from Rhode Island, set a world record on October 10 with a pumpkin weighing 3,156 pounds. It became the first pumpkin to weigh more than 3,000 pounds and the largest fruit ever grown.

The previous record had stood for just one week. Ian Paton, a British grower, had set it with a pumpkin that weighed nearly 2,857 pounds. Wallace's pumpkin replaced Paton's as the world's largest.
