Rhode Island Grower Breaks 3,000-Pound Barrier With Record Pumpkin

Ron Wallace's 3,156-pound pumpkin became the largest fruit ever grown, surpassing a British grower's record set just a week earlier.

A pumpkin grown by Rhode Island's Ron Wallace set a world record on October 10, weighing in at 3,156 pounds. The pumpkin was the first to exceed the 3,000-pound threshold, making it not only the heaviest pumpkin but also the largest fruit ever grown.

Wallace's achievement displaced a record established only a week earlier by British grower Ian Paton, whose pumpkin weighed nearly 2,857 pounds. That short-lived record gave way to Wallace's substantially heavier entry.
