Point Of Law won the Melbourne Cup horse race at Flemington. The King and Queen owned the horse before his move to Australia. Ciaron Maher now trains him. Point Of Law also won the Geelong Cup in his first race for his new owners.
Maher had seven horses in the Melbourne Cup. His horses took the first three places, and they also finished fifth and sixth. Zahrann came second, almost four horse lengths behind the winner. Juja Kibo finished third.
Ethan Brown rode Point Of Law. Brown almost died after a fall at Flemington in 2023, and the fall nearly ended his work as a rider. Maher helped him return to riding. Brown said the trainer always believed in him.
Another Maher horse, Royal Supremacy, ran fast and moved far ahead early in the race. Brown stayed calm, but Point Of Law was farther back than he wanted. Point Of Law then found space to run and moved forward quickly to win. Royal Supremacy finished fifth, while Joseph O'Brien's Sons And Lovers took fourth place.
