Antonelli becomes the youngest Formula 1 champion

Kimi Antonelli won his first Formula 1 world title at age 20. He finished third in Mexico City and became Italy's first champion in 73 years.

Kimi Antonelli won the 2026 Formula 1 world title on November 1 in Mexico City. The Mercedes driver finished third in the race. He became the youngest world champion at 20 years and 68 days old. Sebastian Vettel held the old record at 23 years and 134 days.

Max Verstappen won the race, and Lewis Hamilton finished second. Antonelli started in fourth place. He passed Charles Leclerc to move into third place. He only needed to finish ninth to win the world title, so third place gave him enough points.

Antonelli now has 380 points after 19 races this season. The other drivers cannot get enough points to catch him in the races left. This is only his second year in Formula 1. He has won nine races for Mercedes this season.

Italy waited 73 years for another Formula 1 world champion. Its last champion was Alberto Ascari in 1953. After the race, Antonelli thanked his family and Mercedes for their help. He said he felt very happy and wanted to enjoy the moment with his family, friends, and team.
