Meta has developed an experimental human-shaped robot with Chinese robotics company Fourier, according to The Information. The project took about three months, and Meta calls the robot Max. It stands about 1.5 meters tall and weighs roughly 106 pounds.
Max runs on Nvidia’s Jetson Thor chip, the computer part that powers it. It has a screen that displays facial expressions, along with built-in speakers. Its five-fingered hands allow it to pick up small objects.
Work on a second version, Max 2, began in September. Planned changes include a new torso, or central body section, and better hands. The robot will also get a projector to display images on surfaces and additional sensors, which detect its surroundings, to help it manage stairs.
Meta sees human-shaped robots as possible bodies for Muse, its AI assistant, and hopes they can perform household tasks. However, the company says its partnership with Fourier is for internal research and testing, and it does not plan to sell these robots. Meta has not announced a launch date for a humanoid robot product.
