Frontier Airlines passengers paid about 71% more for the basic part of their tickets from July to September than a year earlier. The airline brought in almost $1.4 billion during those three months. This was a record for Frontier and more than 50% above the same period last year.
Spirit, a major airline with low ticket prices, stopped flying in May. Frontier now has less competition. Frontier's leader, James Dempsey, said three things helped increase the money coming in: Spirit's closure, better ways to set ticket prices, and higher prices because of fuel costs. He said each explained about a third of the increase.
Despite bringing in more money, Frontier lost $104 million after paying its costs. Fuel for its planes cost much more. Passengers continued to buy tickets at higher prices. Frontier's planes were only a little less full than a year earlier.
Frontier plans to start putting in new first-class seats soon. It expects to offer them on flights by early spring. Separately, the airline plans to start adding Starlink internet to its planes in early 2027. Frontier does not currently offer internet during flights.
