Firework Hits Delta Plane Near Chicago Airport

A Delta Air Lines plane flying from Atlanta to Midway International Airport in Chicago was hit by fireworks as it came down to land on Saturday night. The plane carried 52 passengers and six crew members. The airline said the flight made contact with a firework during descent, and the pilot told air traffic control that the plane had been hit at about 200 feet. Controllers had already warned about fireworks near the approach path. The aircraft landed safely, taxied to the gate, and was later inspected. Delta said no damage was found. Chicago police said the plane was struck by an unknown object and that it caused minor paint damage. The incident happened during celebrations for the United States’ 250th anniversary, when fireworks were being used in many places.
