Netflix is developing a live-action series based on PUBG, the popular video game with millions of players worldwide. KRAFTON, the company behind the game, announced the project in partnership with Netflix. The series will feature real actors rather than animation.
Donald Glover will star in the series, write its scripts, and direct it. He will also serve as an executive producer, helping oversee the project. His brother and frequent creative partner, Stephen Glover, will join as a writer and executive producer.
PUBG is a survival game in which 100 players compete on an island until one person or team wins. KRAFTON aims to expand the game’s world into television and movies through its entertainment division, LV3H. The Netflix series is part of that effort to bring the game beyond its original format.
Glover previously created Atlanta, which won seven Emmy awards and received 26 nominations. In a separate project, Netflix is developing a live-action series based on Assassin’s Creed. The company is also working on a feature-length Gears of War movie. These projects add to Netflix’s growing collection of stories adapted from video games.
