Citroën Reinterprets the Classic 2CV for an Electric Future

Unveiled in Paris on October 12, 2026, Citroën's electric 2CV concept emphasizes simplicity, practicality, and affordability. The company targets European production by 2028 and an entry price of approximately €15,000.

Citroën unveiled an all-electric concept inspired by its classic 2CV at the Paris auto show on October 12, 2026, reinterpreting a design whose history stretches back to 1948. With minimalist styling, a spacious interior, and modern electric technology, the concept seeks to retain the original model's simplicity and affordability while adapting it to contemporary transportation needs. The French manufacturer presents the project as more than an exercise in nostalgia: it is intended to express its philosophy of simple, accessible cars that offer freedom of movement.

Measuring 3.76 meters in length, the vehicle has a target weight of approximately one metric ton. Engineering work emphasizes a combination of low weight and durability, while aerodynamic improvements update its heritage-inspired appearance. Its compact proportions are intended to promote energy efficiency and maneuverability in urban settings. Chief executive Xavier Chardon has emphasized that preserving the 2CV's spirit means translating its underlying values into a modern vehicle, rather than merely copying its earlier design. The project also fits Citroën's stated ambition to reduce its carbon footprint and offer practical transportation for everyday use.

Although the vehicle remains a concept, Citroën intends to bring it into production within the next two years, targeting its addition to the lineup by 2028. Manufacturing is expected to take place in Europe, with a starting price of around €15,000. To achieve that target, the company aims to control production costs. Its pricing strategy is intended to broaden access to electric cars and strengthen its competitive position in the European market.
