Anthropic, the company behind Claude, reported revenue of $16.8 billion from July through September, about 46% more than in the previous three months. It plans an initial public offering, its first sale of shares to the public, in November. The company is targeting a total value of up to $2 trillion. Although revenue continues to rise, growth has slowed: revenue more than doubled between the first and second quarters.
In a separate effort, Anthropic announced on Sunday that it plans to place 5% of its shares in a new public benefit fund. The proposal still requires shareholder approval. Anthropic will fully own the fund, which could make large donations to nonprofit organizations or send money directly to particular groups of people.
One possible focus is helping society respond to AI's effects on jobs. Anthropic has already pledged $200 million to research on adapting to AI's economic impact. The new fund could support larger efforts. Its board could also add more shares as the company's value grows.
