Anthropic, the developer of Claude, generated $16.8 billion in revenue between July and September, an increase of approximately 46% from the preceding quarter. The company is preparing for a November initial public offering targeting a valuation of up to $2 trillion. Despite the substantial increase, revenue growth has decelerated: sales more than doubled between the first and second quarters. Anthropic also reported its second consecutive quarterly profit on an adjusted basis, which excludes certain costs. Corporate customers account for about 80% of its revenue.
In a separate effort, Anthropic announced on Sunday that it intends to allocate 5% of its shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, subject to shareholder approval. Structured as a wholly owned limited liability company rather than a charity, the fund could make substantial donations to established nonprofits or distribute money directly to specific populations. Anthropic identified AI's labor-market effects as a potential focus, building on an existing $200 million research commitment to examine how society can adapt to AI's economic impact.
The board could contribute an additional 2% of shares each time Anthropic's valuation rises 50% above a designated baseline. Together with earlier cofounder pledges and an employee share-donation matching program, the proposal would dedicate roughly 20% of the company's shares to the public good, excluding future additions linked to valuation growth. Anthropic said the fund's shares would not finance lobbying or political donations. Further information on governance and valuation milestones is expected in the coming months.
