Neanderthals were an ancient group of humans. They were good at working with wood. Wooden tools at a place in Spain show this skill. The place is called Abric Romaní. It is a shelter under rock.
People studying the past recorded almost 600 wooden objects or marks left by them. Human hands clearly shaped 13 of these finds. Old wood usually breaks down quickly. But water covered this place from time to time. The water also had minerals in it. Together, the water and minerals helped keep the wooden finds from breaking down.
