Baseball Bet Could Send a Monet Painting to Another Museum

Two museums are backing their local baseball teams. The losing team’s museum will lend a Monet painting to the winning team’s museum.

The Milwaukee Brewers are playing the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2026 World Series. Two art museums have made a friendly bet on the games. They are the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida. The losing team’s museum will lend a Claude Monet painting to the other museum for a short time.

The Brewers lead by two games to zero before Game 3 in Tampa Bay. They need two more wins. If they win, Milwaukee will borrow Houses of Parliament: Effect of Fog, London. Monet painted it in 1904, and it shows a large building and two boats on a gray day.

If the Rays win, St. Petersburg will borrow Waterloo Bridge, Sunlight Effect. This painting dates from 1903 and is Milwaukee’s only Monet. It shows sunlight on the River Thames and dark smoke from factories. Both paintings show scenes in London.

Each museum is showing its painting now. After the World Series, the museums will share more information about the loan. Either team will win its first World Series title. The winning city will also get to show the two Monet paintings together for a short time.
