Museums Put Monet Paintings on the Line in World Series Bet

Museums in Milwaukee and St. Petersburg have agreed to lend a Monet painting based on the World Series result, temporarily bringing two London scenes together.

The 2026 World Series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays has inspired a friendly bet between two art museums. The Milwaukee Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida, are backing their local teams. The museum supporting the losing team will temporarily lend a Claude Monet painting to the winner’s museum.

Milwaukee leads the series 2–0 ahead of Game 3 in Tampa Bay and needs two more victories. If the Brewers win, their city’s museum will receive Houses of Parliament: Effect of Fog, London. Painted in 1904, it shows the Palace of Westminster and two boats on the River Thames under gray skies.

If the Rays come back to win, St. Petersburg will display Milwaukee’s only Monet, Waterloo Bridge, Sunlight Effect. Dating from 1903, the painting shows sunlight on the Thames, with dark factory smoke in the background. Both works belong to Monet’s London series, in which he explored changes in light and weather by painting the same scenes repeatedly.

Both paintings remain on display at their own museums for now. Details of the loan will be announced after the series ends. Whichever team claims its first World Series title, the bet will temporarily bring two of Monet’s London paintings together.
