British jewelry expert Jayne Bond found a ring on Amazon for £3.39. The seller said it contained 92.5% silver. But Bond said her first tests found cadmium. This metal can cause cancer.
The ring had the same design as an earlier ring on Amazon. Tests found that the earlier ring contained about 92.3% cadmium. That was over 9,000 times the legal limit in the UK. A different seller offered the newer ring. Amazon said it removed this new ring after Bond's September warning.
Cadmium can also hurt the kidneys and weaken bones over time. Very little enters the body through the skin. Taking it into the body through food or air brings greater risks.
