A man found a stone with ancient writing on his land in northern Egypt. He told the authorities. Experts then dug at the site in Behbeit Al-Hagar. They found parts of two huge statues. The village has an ancient temple for the goddess Isis.
One statue shows Ramesses II, an ancient Egyptian king. Its head is about 1.6 metres tall. The whole statue probably stood about 8.5 metres tall. The king wears a double crown. This shows his rule over two parts of Egypt.
The second statue is about 2.4 metres tall. It probably also shows Ramesses II. The king wears a striped cloth on his head. A nearby stone carries his name.
