South Korea and Turkey signed an agreement to study ways to pay for energy projects in Turkey. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met in Seoul. South Korea wants to help build Turkey’s planned second nuclear power plant.
The plant will be in Sinop, on the Black Sea coast. Nuclear plants make electricity with energy from atoms. Turkey has not chosen a partner for the project. The two countries will form a team to share information about possible ways to pay for energy projects.
Lee said work on the plant was going well. Teams are already studying the place for the plant. Before choosing a partner, Turkey will look at how to pay, the cost of making electricity, and how the project could help its economy. Turkey is also talking with other countries.
The leaders also agreed to work more closely on making military equipment and developing technology. Other agreements cover renewable energy, hydrogen, and important minerals. Trade between the countries was more than $11 billion last year. The leaders discussed their goal of $15 billion.
