Samantha Rensvold was playing in a softball tournament in Montana on August 1, 2025, when a teammate noticed someone who looked just like her. The other player was 18-year-old Kyann Dean, a member of the opposing team from another state. Rensvold had been adopted as a baby. She knew she had a biological sister, but they had never met.
Rensvold did not speak to Dean after the game. Instead, she told her adoptive mother, who suggested checking the opposing team's player list. Her mother recognized Kyann as the name given to Rensvold's sister. During a later game, the two families talked and confirmed that the girls shared a birth mother and had been born at the same hospital.
The sisters were excited to meet. Their biological parents also had a son, who had found Rensvold several years earlier. The sisters discovered another connection: both had played high school volleyball in the same position and worn the same number. They now attend college in different states and plan to spend time together. Rensvold felt more at peace after finally meeting her sister.
