SEC Schools Agree on Athlete Payment Deals

SEC schools will use the same basic payment agreement for athletes. Schools can still change some parts.

The SEC is a group of college sports teams. On Monday, its school presidents agreed to use the same basic payment agreement for athletes. The change starts now. The Big Ten already uses this system. Schools can change some parts of the SEC agreement.

Schools can pay athletes up to $21.6 million this school year. Athletes also let schools use their names and pictures when they sign these deals.

The SEC is taking more control of its own rules. But its presidents delayed a vote on another rule. That old rule made players miss one season after moving from one SEC school to another. The SEC ended that rule in June 2021.
