RAYE Wins a Big Music Prize

RAYE won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second album. She said music gives people hope.

British singer RAYE won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second album, “This Music May Contain Hope.” Her birth name is Rachel Keen. The prize celebrates the best album by a British or Irish artist each year. The event took place at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on Thursday evening. Olivia Dean and Paul McCartney also had albums in the competition. McCartney, 84, had an album on the list for the first time.

The judges liked RAYE’s mix of old Hollywood style and stories about everyday life. Her album tells a young woman’s story about life and love. It includes the popular song “Where Is My Husband!” RAYE thanked the judges. She said albums are very important to her. She also called music “medicine” and said everyone needs hope.

RAYE left her old record company after she said it did not let her release her first album. She released that album, “My 21st Century Blues,” in 2023 without a record company. It also had a chance to win the Mercury Prize. After that album, she won six BRIT Awards in 2024. No artist had won that many in one year before.
