Powderfinger Unveils Comeback Tour 17 Years After Split

The Brisbane rock band will reunite for 18 Australian shows, combining a stadium-sized tent setting with a Friday-and-Saturday-only schedule.

Powderfinger has unveiled an Australian comeback tour scheduled to take place 17 years after the band split. Having confirmed their reunion last week, the Brisbane rock group will open with four nights in their home city next September, followed by 14 performances across Cairns, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, and Melbourne. All concerts will be staged in a stadium-sized tent, with appearances restricted to Friday and Saturday nights—a schedule similar to the one Oasis adopted for its world tour last year. No international dates have been announced.

Expressing their excitement about performing together again, the members said earlier proposals to resume touring had never felt right or aligned for everyone. They acknowledged the enduring support of longtime fans alongside newer listeners who have yet to see them live. With fans frequently associating their music with cherished, joyful memories, the band hopes to create further shared experiences on a tour featuring both established and emerging Australian acts.

The group's catalog comprises seven studio albums, including Odyssey Number Five, released in 2000. Listeners of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's music station Triple J voted it the greatest Australian album in 2011. Its single My Happiness ranked sixth in the station's 2025 vote for the best Australian song. Other hits include On My Mind, These Days, and Sunsets. Since the breakup, frontman Bernard Fanning has continued a solo career, while bassist John Collins has opened two of Brisbane's largest live music venues.
