Porto Comes First for Friendly People

Travel magazine readers chose Porto as Europe’s friendliest city. Lisbon came second.

Porto is Europe’s friendliest city in the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards. Readers of the travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller chose the cities. Lisbon came second. Both cities are in Portugal. The vote looks at places where local people welcome visitors and help them.

Porto has a relaxed feel. Visitors can enjoy good food and learn about the city’s culture. They can also share small dishes with local people. Lisbon stands on seven hills beside a river. It has narrow streets, music, sweet foods, and busy cafés. Its people help visitors feel welcome.

Amsterdam came third. Stockholm was fourth, and Valletta was fifth.
