Nvidia tests a quantum computer design on a supercomputer

Nvidia used a powerful computer in Germany to test a quantum computer design. The test included errors like those in real machines.

Nvidia used JUPITER, a very powerful computer in Germany, to model a quantum computer. The model had 104 qubits. These are the basic parts of a quantum computer. The design can find and fix errors during its work. Nvidia says this is the largest full computer test of this kind. The team ran it on ordinary computer technology, not a real quantum computer.

Small disturbances can cause errors in quantum computers. Nvidia included these problems in its test. The team tested a way to prepare special quantum states for certain calculations. Nvidia says this method needs 90% fewer qubits than earlier methods. This could leave more qubits free for calculations.

The test used 8,192 computer chips. Nvidia first tested its methods on a smaller system at its own research center. The company says this preparation cut the work from weeks to days. Researchers can use such tests to check designs before building real machines. In November 2025, researchers at JUPITER modeled 50 qubits, but that test did not include errors.
