Hyatt has announced The StandardX Times Square, a hotel planned for a very tall tower under construction in Midtown Manhattan. With 1,800 rooms, it will be Hyatt's largest hotel in New York City and one of the city's largest hotels overall. The opening is scheduled for the second half of 2028.
Beyond its rooms, the hotel will offer a rooftop pool and an observation deck, where visitors can enjoy views from more than 1,000 feet above the ground. It will also feature an enclosed free-fall ride, an attraction that drops riders suddenly. The building, called The Torch, will include restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues.
Located near Times Square in the Theater District, the hotel will draw design ideas from New York's theater culture. Its rooms will be simple but have a clear character, while shared spaces will combine design, music, and social activity. Hyatt says this will be a special flagship location—a leading hotel for the brand—not a model for other StandardX hotels.
The StandardX brand launched in 2023, with its first hotel opening later in Melbourne, Australia. Compared with The Standard, it offers simpler rooms, more casual service, and a less complicated guest experience. Connecting guests with the surrounding city remains part of the brand's approach.
