The Neighbors started on ABC in 2012. Dan Fogelman created this TV comedy. It ran for two seasons and 44 episodes. The story follows the Weaver family. They move into Hidden Hills. Their neighbors look human, but they are aliens.
George Takei plays Big Bird, the father of alien leader Larry Bird. He appears in four episodes. His first episode comes at the end of season one. Mark Hamill plays Commander Bill. The two actors share jokes about Star Trek and Star Wars. Big Bird sends messages on bread through a machine. It looks like a toaster.
Fogelman asked Takei to join the show in a letter. Takei said yes.
