Sal Frelick helped the Milwaukee Brewers recover from a four-run deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5–4 in World Series Game 2. It was Milwaukee's second comeback from four runs behind during this postseason, the games that follow the regular season.
Facing Rays pitcher Ian Seymour in the sixth inning, Frelick received nine straight fastballs. He kept the at-bat alive before hitting the ninth pitch for a solo home run, which added one run and tied the score at 4–4. Cooper Pratt later delivered the final blow.
The moment followed a difficult regular season for Frelick, who hit only four home runs. A right shoulder injury kept him out for six weeks, and his playing time decreased after he returned. Luis Lara, a young player called up in July, took some of that time.
Manager Pat Murphy praised Frelick's confidence and competitive attitude. At 5 feet 8 inches tall, Frelick has often needed to prove his ability against bigger players, Murphy said. Frelick described competition as his way of gaining an advantage, whether he is hitting or defending. Milwaukee now has a chance to win the first World Series championship in the team's history.
