Three filmmakers have pinpointed where the first human subjects captured in a photograph were standing, resolving a mystery that had endured for nearly two centuries. The Paris location is now commemorated by a bronze plaque honoring both the historic site and the early photograph.
To establish the precise location, the filmmakers devoted two years to archival research and the construction of three-dimensional models of 19th-century Paris. Combining historical records with reconstructions of the city, their investigation focused on identifying the ground occupied by the people in the image.
