New research looks at the history of magic in Exeter, a city in England. Most of the country became less strict about magic, but Exeter took a different path.
City leaders went after people accused of being witches. They also took people to court for using magic to help others.
These helpers used magic to try to find answers about small crimes. Their work did not mean harm, but Exeter's leaders still acted against them.
