Deadly fire at Bangkok venue

A fire at a bar in Bangkok killed at least 27 people, Thai officials said. The fire spread quickly, and investigators are now looking into the cause and the escape routes.

Thai authorities say at least 27 people were killed in a fire at a venue in Bangkok. The place, known locally as Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, is in the Chatuchak district and serves as a restaurant and entertainment spot.

According to the prime minister, a musician who was performing when the fire started said it began at a cut-out switch. After that, events moved very quickly, with blasting, smoke, and flames making it hard for people to get out.

Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt visited the site and said the fire may have spread quickly because of flammable decorations inside. He also said there were early reports that merchandise tables may have blocked fire exits, but that this needs an official forensic investigation.
