China’s Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge has become both a transport link and a tourist destination. Standing 2,054 feet above the Beipan River, it is the world’s highest bridge. It connects Guanling Bouyei-Miao Autonomous County with Zhenfeng County, reducing a two-hour canyon crossing to just two minutes. The project has recorded about 3.3 million visits.
Tourism was included in the original plan. Visitors can take elevators into the bridge and enjoy views from a glass observation hall. They can also explore a sightseeing corridor, cross a narrow walkway suspended above the canyon, or use an elevated running track. Bungee jumping, which involves jumping while attached to an elastic cord, is another attraction. Light and water-screen shows take place at night.
The surrounding communities have also benefited. Huajiang Township and nearby areas have received more than 1.48 million visits. Better transportation connections have helped local businesses. According to a hotel manager in the township, rooms are often fully booked on weekends and public holidays as visitors choose to stay in the area.
