Airbnb Sets New Rules for Cleaning Before Leaving

From November 20, Airbnb hosts generally cannot ask guests to wash dishes, remove bedsheets, or take out the trash.

Airbnb is changing its rules for people who offer homes to guests. These people are called hosts. The new rules start on November 20. Hosts generally cannot ask guests to wash dishes, remove sheets from beds, take out the trash, or wash clothes before leaving. They cannot ask guests to do jobs for a cleaner. They also cannot ask for jobs that take a lot of time or work.

Hosts can still ask guests to do small things. Guests may need to put dirty dishes in the sink or bring used towels together. Hosts can choose from seven standard house rules. They can also add other reasonable requests. Rules must appear in a special part of the home's online page. Hosts cannot give guests new rules after booking through messages, signs in the home, or a talk in person.

Hosts cannot charge guests extra money for not doing jobs on the leaving list. The cleaning charge should cover normal cleaning between guests. Airbnb will mark requests that break the rules. Hosts must remove them or ask Airbnb to review its decision. Hosts who keep breaking the rules may face problems. Airbnb could show their homes less often in searches or stop them from using their accounts.
