People are having fewer children across much of the world. Nicholas Bloom studies work and money at Stanford University. He thinks working from home has helped increase births by 5% in the US and Northern Europe. The link is strongest for women aged 30 or older with a university degree and one child.
Bloom says working from home makes caring for children easier. Parents can take children to the doctor or dentist. They can also go to school if a child needs help.
Couples also have more chances to start a pregnancy. This can get harder after age 30, especially after 35. Working from home can make the timing easier.
