Chick-fil-A restaurants usually open six days a week. They close on Sundays. Chick-fil-A made $23.9 billion in sales in the US in 2025. This was about 5% more than in 2024. But its boss, Andrew Cathy, does not plan to open on Sundays. He says he has never worked out how much more money Sunday opening could bring.
His grandfather, S. Truett Cathy, started the Sunday break in 1946. He opened his first restaurant that year in Hapeville, Georgia. Before that, he worked seven days a week. He wanted a day for himself and his workers to rest, see family or go to church. Andrew Cathy became the company's boss in 2021. His family owns the business. He says this helps them put workers' time off before making every possible penny.
The business sometimes makes an exception. In 2017, it opened on a Sunday to feed travellers at Atlanta's airport. They could not leave because the airport had no power. But Andrew Cathy says a Sunday off is important to workers. He does not want to take it away.
