Woman, 99, becomes the world’s oldest wing-walker

Helga Duffy became the world’s oldest wing-walker. Her niece realised Helga could try it, and staff at her care home encouraged her.

Helga Duffy is 99. She is now the world’s oldest person to fly on top of a plane. Guinness World Records gave her the title. Betty Bromage, 97, set the last record three months earlier.

Helga flew at Rendcomb Airfield in Gloucestershire, England. She was strapped tightly on top of a small plane. She stayed in the air for over five minutes. She had a painful knee, but she felt very safe.

Her niece realised Helga could try it after seeing news about Betty Bromage. Staff at her care home encouraged her to try. Helga also raised over £1,600 for a charity for medical help by air. She received a certificate for her record. Her care home now shows it to others.
