Iberian lynxes are wild cats. Cameras in Spain showed several female lynxes carrying dead rabbits to containers of water. The cats put the rabbits under the water again and again before eating them. Researchers recorded this over five years. Scientists never recorded this action in a wild cat before.
Scientists do not know why the cats do this. It may help them get more water in hot summers. It may also make food softer for their young. There may be another reason.
These cats once came close to disappearing forever. Their numbers have grown greatly since then. Researchers continue to watch them and discover new things.
